Cherokee County Has First COVID-19 Related Death

Cherokee County now has its first confirmed death related to COVID-19.   

According to Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency Director Shawn Rogers –on Friday May 21st the Alabama Department of Public Health and State EMA notified his office that our county has now officially logged its first death due to coronavirus. 

Rogers said he has received no additional information – and an update will be provided at a later time.

Thus far, Cherokee County has had a total of 31 confirmed cases of 542 people being tested.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across the state now stands at 13,418 – and as of Friday at noon the ADPH COVID-19 Data and Surveillance Dashboard showed a total of 533 deaths resulting from the illness.

According to those latest Alabama Department of Public Health figures – 1,553 individuals have been hospitalized since March 13th, and the number tested now stands at 177,079
