The Center for Disease Control has recently added six new symptoms experienced by those who have coronavirus.
Added to the existing list – chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and a new loss of taste or smell. Before, symptoms of the virus were considered to be fever, cough and shortness of breath.
People experiencing any “emergency warning signs” of COVID-19, are being advised by the CDC to seek immediate medical attention. Emergency warning signs are trouble breathing; a persistent pain or pressure in the chest; a new confusion or the inability to arouse; bluish lips or face.
In the event of a medical emergency, people are asked to notify the 9-1-1 operator that they may have COVID-19, and if possible they should put on a cloth face covering before medical help arrives.
There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus – but the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed.
Safety recommendations include:
- Wash your hands often or use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with someone who is sick.
- Stay at home as much as possible.
- Put distance between yourself and other people.
- Wear a cloth face covering when you go out in public.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.(AL.COM/www.al.com)
