Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Statewide at 1,827 as of Sunday Evening / Six Cases Confirmed in Cherokee County

As of Sunday afternoon the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 across Alabama rose to 1,827 with 31 confirmed deaths as a result, and 231 people hospitalized due to the illness.

Here in Cherokee County, we have six confirmed cases, with 51 people tested and no deaths reported; there are 36 positive cases in Etowah County, with two confirmed deaths and one other under investigation – and in DeKalb County there are 14 confirmed cases, following a total of 148 people being tested with no deaths reported.

Governor Kay Ivey’s Emergency Order went into effect Saturday at 5:00pm and residents of the state should remain at home as much as possible – they are allowed to leave in order to obtain food and other essential items, receive health care and get medicine.  The safe distancing order is stressed, meaning people should remain six feet apart to limit a chance of the illness spreading while out in public places.  The Shelter-at-Home order will remain in effect until April 30th.
