They say smoking is a hard habit to break, but it’s apparently tougher for some than others.
A Collinsville man was arrested by DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators a short time after allegedly breaking into the Hammondville Quikmart and making off with – that’s right, several packs of cigarettes.
Deputies responded to the store at around 3:00am Wednesday in response to an alarm call, and when they arrived they found the front door had been broken – with a rock. They then saw that multiple packs of cigarettes were missing. Surveillance footage showed a Mazda passenger car in the parking lot both before and after the break-in and a male subject wearing tan coveralls inside the store.
Exactly 12 hours later, at 3:00pm, investigators encountered a similar looking vehicle being driven by a man wearing identical clothing. Following a traffic stop and interview – 48 year old Daniel Hurley, Jr. was taken into custody and charged with Burglary 3rd Degree.
Afterwards, the stolen items were found at Hurley’s home.
