One Subject in Custody; One Still Being Sought Following Tuesday Night Chase in Cherokee County

An attempted traffic stop led to a chase and an arrest earlier this week in Cherokee County.

A Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop Tuesday night in the area of Powell Drive and Cedar Bluff Road on a vehicle that contained two occupants; however the female driver made the decision to speed away, with Cedar Bluff and Leesburg Police soon joining in the pursuit.  Centre Police also assisted.

Both subjects turned out to have active warrants.

Moments later near Blackwell’s Crossroads a deputy was forced to swerve in order to avoid a collision with the suspects’ vehicle after the driver slammed on the brakes; as a result, the patrol vehicle came to rest in a ditch, sustaining minor damage.

The male subject bailed out and attempted to flee, but was quickly caught and taken to jail – 31 year old Timothy Wilson Nail of Centre was booked in at 12:13am Wednesday – charged with Failure to Appear on previous charges of Burglary 3rd Degree (five counts).

The female subject is still being sought.

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver told WEIS Radio News he would like to thank all those agencies that provided assistance that night.
