Spring Creek, Ellisville, and McCord’s Fire Departments were dispatched to Cherokee Gin & Cotton Co. shortly after 11:00 pm Wednesday night.
According to gin manager Rich Lindsey, they experienced a flash-over type fire that singed the dust throughout the building. Fortunately, there was no major damage. Fire Department personnel along with Cherokee County EMA and Floyd EMS remained on the scene until after 4:00 am cooling and removing hot spots and ventilating the building.
“We expect to resume normal operations sometime this afternoon,” said Lindsey, who credited the minimal damage and speedy recovery to the quick response and valiant efforts of the fire departments and other agencies that responded and to the employees of Cherokee Gin who have worked tirelessly throughout the night and morning to get the gin back operational.
