Marcie L. Foster Announces Campaign for Cherokee County Commission in 2020.

Marcie L. Foster has announced her candidacy for the 2020 election for the Cherokee County Commission District #3. While the Commission is broken into four seats, each Commissioner is elected as a county wide vote and most of the decisions made by the Commissioners affect the entire county.
Marcie is originally from Cherokee County and is proud to have graduated from Sand Rock High School. She then went on to earn her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama Birmingham and her Law Degree from Cumberland School of Law. Marcie has a vested interest in the economy of the county as a small business owner with her own law practice in Leesburg, AL. Marcie was named as the Distinguished Service Alumni award winner for 2015 by the UAB Department of Psychology and its Executive Committee and was named as the 2016 Profiles of Service Alumni Honoree by Cumberland School of Law.
Marcie will continue to focus on bettering the county as she has since being first elected. Marcie began advocating for having a School Resource Officer (SRO) at every school in the county in May 2014, an effort that finally came to fruition this fall. She will also continue working to bring mental health and substance abuse resources to the county. During her time as a Commissioner Marcie has worked to make progress such as having a screening process built into the booking process at the jail to screen for mental health or substance abuse problems. In partnership with CED Mental Health a grant was secured to place a social worker in the jail to assist getting those individuals that want assistance the resources and treatment needed.
Marcie understands the distinctive and often complex issues that face rural counties, their economy, healthcare, and public services. She has spent her time as a Commissioner fighting to bring resources back to Cherokee County and developing relationships with people and organizations that could provide resources; she has served on the ACCA’s Legislative Committee, Board of Directors and Workers Compensation Boards, has been appointed to the Alabama Mental Health Steering Committee and worked with The Right Place to secure a grant for five counties to be able to offer Mental Health First Aid classes at low or no charge.
Throughout her work as Commissioner Marcie has maintained fiscal responsibility, strict budgeting practices, and getting the maximum benefit in spending of taxpayer’s money. She believes leadership requires an attitude that looks for solutions and resolutions of problems and seeing problems from different perspectives with an attitude of “we can fix that”.
“I have enjoyed serving my community and I am extremely proud of the progress we have made; however I feel there is still many things I have left to do to improve Cherokee County while I have the momentum to do so.
