Rome Police Seek Suspect in Weekend Hold Up and Shooting Incident

Rome Police have released the name of a suspect on Sunday that they believe is responsible for the armed robbery that took place Saturday night at the Hi-Tech Fuel Station on South Broad Street around 9:15.  Using security camera footage police identified the suspect as 45 year old James Edward Haynes.  Police say he entered the gas station wearing black gloves, all-black clothing and a black ski mask.

Police state Haynes had a Glock Model 21 in his possession and he shot the store clerk once in the back.  The clerk ran to the back of the store and hid after being shot.  Police believe at that point the suspect took the money from the cash register and fled the scene on foot.

When police arrived at the scene the 63 year-old store clerk was found with a bullet wound and was transported to the hospital for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
