The Etowah County Detention Center is ground zero for the sixth season of “60 Days In” – a popular cable TV reality series shown on A&E.
This season will follow seven people who volunteer to go undercover as inmates in order to expose problems in the jail. One of those problems was jail contraband, which resulted in a shakedown WBRC TV6 first reported last January. The “60 Days In” crew was present at the news conference where Sheriff Jonathan Horton announced the shakedown. He stated that the show’s presence helped to expose a number of problems – with six correctional officers being fired, and eleven more resigning, as a result of the series being shot in the jail.
The series focusing on the Etowah County Detention Center premieres January 2nd (2020).
