The U.S. Department of Transportation has recently announced federal grants totaling $4.7 million to two Alabama airports.
The department announced those grants as part of $485 million in federal money going to airports across the nation.
Anniston Regional Airport will receive the lion’s share of the Alabama allotment – receiving a $4 million grant to fund rehabilitation of its runway, meanwhile Eufaula’s Weedon Field is getting $650,000 to pay for construction of an airport parking area.
According to the city of Anniston, its 678-acre regional airport has one runway – measuring 7,000 feet in length. The airport sees about 34,000 aircraft operations annually.
Weedon Field is a 208-acre airport with a 5,000 foot runway and sees about 36,000 aircraft operations a year.
According to the department, the Trump Administration has invested $10.8 billion in more than 2,000 American airports since January of 2017.
