Juror Selection Underway in the Murder Trial of Larry Wayne Bodily

Juror selection in the trial of a Cherokee County man who stands accused of brutally killing his mother in 2017 got underway in Cherokee County District Court on Monday (November 18th, 2019).

68 year old Karen Willmon of Centre was initially listed as a “Missing Person” following a news release by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, with WEIS Radio’s initial coverage of her disappearance dating to February 14th that year.  Her body was discovered by Investigators with the Cherokee County Major Crimes Unit just days later on February 19th, and her son, 48 year old Larry Wayne Bodily was arrested and charged with Murder in connection with the case that same day.

Bodily had also been arrested on February 14th on charges of the Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, with Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card charges being added later.

Jury selection will resume today (Monday) at 1:30pm in the Cherokee County Courthouse.

The state’s case is being handled by Assistant District Attorney Bob Johnston – while Larry Wayne Bodily is representing himself, with Matthew Green acting as stand-by counsel, providing assistance as needed.

The trial will take place in the courtroom of Judge Andrew Hairston.
