Koch Foods is planning construction of a $55 million grain storage and distribution facility in Etowah County. The 130-acre feed mill, which will be built in Attalla, will employ around 30 people and should be completed by the fall of 2021. Company officials and Governor Kay Ivey were in town this week for the official groundbreaking ceremony.  Mark Kaminsky, the Chief Operating Officer at Koch Foods, said the facility would be able to store a million bushels of corn.  It will be served directly by rail.

Koch Foods has four integrated poultry plants in Alabama – Collinsville, Gadsden, Ashland and Montgomery, employing about 3,800 people. The complexes process approximately 6.8 million chickens a week, or 364 million birds a year.  The Gadsden plant, which has around 950 employees, recently underwent an $80 million expansion.  The new feed mill will support more than 200 poultry farmers across 10 counties mostly in Marshall, DeKalb, Cherokee and Etowah counties.

The company will start assembling a management team in the first quarter of 2020 and will begin interviewing prospective production workers in early 2021.

The facility will be located approximately two miles from a 1,000-plus-acre megasite which will be developed off of I-59.
