Fire at Ebenzer United Methodist Church in Alexis Community Overnight; Fellowship Hall Destroyed, Church Receives Only Minor Heat Damage

Firefighters with the Ellisville, McCord’s and Spring Creek Departments were dispatched to a report of a fire at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in the Alexis community, around 2:00am Wednesday.

The Fellowship Hall at the church was completely destroyed by fire – fortunately, however, the church itself suffered only minor heat damage due to the close proximity of the blaze.  The Fire Marshal has reportedly been called to the scene and the fire is under investigation; a grass fire was reportedly encountered less than a mile away from the church fire at about the same time.

Shortly after 9:00 Tuesday morning, firefighters with the same departments responded to a mobile home fire at 3990 County Road 93, also approximately a mile away from the church fire, in the Alexis community.  The homeowner, reportedly home in bed at the time did manage to exit the structure safely.  The cause of that fire is currently under investigation as well.
