National Park Service Confirms One Dead in Kayaking Accident at Little River Canyon National Preserve

According to reports from WAAY 31 TV – the National Park Service has confirmed that one person is dead following a kayaking accident Saturday at Little River Canyon National Preserve.  A 41 year old DeKalb County resident somehow got pinned underneath a rock.  A 9-1-1 call went out at 11:38am, and the search began shortly thereafter.

The search was suspended around 4:00 that afternoon due to weather conditions.  The search, which is now classified as a recovery effort, will resume Sunday morning. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency search helicopter will be used in the recovery effort.

The National Park Service, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Ft Payne Fire Department, the Tucker Volunteer Fire Department and DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency. along with the DeKalb Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

The name of the individual has not yet been released.
