According to a report by the Anniston Star a small plane crashed early Sunday evening near Bains Gap Road, claiming the life of the pilot.
Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade stated his office was contacted by the U.S. Air Force, after it lost contact with the small, private single-engine plane.
They then provided Wade with GPS coordinate of where the plane could’ve been, and while deputies were conducting a search, family members of the pilot contacted law enforcement saying they used a smartphone app to track the man’s cell phone.
Sheriff Wade said the plane was located a couple of hours later at a ridge in a wooded area.
Harvell Walker, Jr. from Fayetteville, Georgia was found dead inside the aircraft; he was the sole occupant. The plane had taken off from Muscle Shoals and it was headed to Peachtree City in Georgia.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation
