Bomb Threat Shuts Down Main Street In Centre On Friday

The City of Centre received a bomb threat early Friday causing a portion of East Main Street to be shuttered for several hours while officers searched buildings in the affected area. Traffic was rerouted on various streets.  After buildings were cleared, the street was reopened without any issues.

Mayor Wilkie told WEIS Radio News “While We Hope This Is A Hoax, We Are Treating It As A Credible Threat With All Precautions Being Implemented To Ensure The Safety Of The Public”.

All available law enforcement agencies in the County were brought in to assist the Centre Police Department including the Sheriff’s Department, Leesburg Police, Cedar Bluff Police, EMA, ALEA,  and the FBI. The Centre Fire Department also involved with the operation.

This is an ongoing investigation and WEIS Radio will update you when more information is made available.
