Ohatchee Man Dies After Crashing His Vehicle While Fleeing From Law Enforcement

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade said that on Wednesday at approximately 5:00 p.m., a deputy responded to a domestic violence call on Hellamanard Rd. in Ohatchee. This was the third call for service to this residence that day involving the suspect, Jackie Lee Blackburn.

Deputies took a report earlier in the day where Blackburn was reported as assaulting a family member. However, Blackburn would intentionally leave the residence before deputies arrived, and they had been looking for him throughout the day.

While the deputy was at the residence for the third time, Blackburn returned in a Toyota passenger car. The deputy attempted to detain Blackburn, at which time he drove off from the scene.

The deputy began pursuing the suspect during which Blackburn drove over a set of railroad tracks at a high rate of speed causing him to crash his vehicle.  Deputies attempted first aid until Alexandria and Ohatchee Fire Departments arrived on scene along with Anniston EMS.

Blackburn was transported to Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced decease.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency was called to work the scene and complete an investigation.
