Unemployment rate falls to 3.5% as 136K jobs added in September

Kameleon007/iStock(WASHINGTON) — U.S. employers added 136,000 jobs to their payrolls in September, the Labor Department reported Friday morning.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics said most of the job gains last month were in health care (39,000) and professional and business services (34,000).

The unemployment rate, meanwhile, dropped from 3.7 percent to 3.5 percent, marking a 50-year low. The last time the rate was that low was in December 1969, according to the Labor Department.
