Cherokee Humane Society Needs Your Help to Save Dogs and Other Animals Rescued from Rock Run Location

The Cherokee Humane Society desperately needs your help in helping the animals rescued from a home in the Rock Run community this week.

Tuesday, Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on County Road 73 in the southern portion of the county, where they were to perform a welfare check on a woman.  When they arrived at that location, they encountered a large number of animals – including dogs, cats/kittens, rabbits and turtles – which appeared to be malnourished.

Dr. Jeremy Deaton, Consulting Veterinarian for Cherokee County Animal Control stated that authorities seized a total of 47 animals from the residence; several others were found to be deceased.

He added that the County Animal Shelter was placed under a “State of Emergency” allowing for the implementation of an emergency operation plan.  A call went out for assistance from the public in collecting food for these animals, with donations then being dropped off at the shelter on the Piedmont Highway.  Dr. Deaton and Animal Control Officer Dustin Dutton say the response has been great; however they still need monetary donations for important life saving medicines to combat heart-worms, and other various ailments, brought on by lack of proper care, unsanitary conditions and malnutrition.

They’re attempting to return these animals to good health and get them ready for adoption – 100% of the money donated will go toward the care and rehabilitation of these animals.

Checks may be made out to the Cherokee Humane Society, PO Box 88, Cedar Bluff, Alabama  35959
