Last Surviving Victim of August 27th Shooting in the Holland Community of Chattooga County Dies

Daryl Marsh and Joe Edward Brown

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says Daryl Marsh has passed away.  Marsh was the surviving victim from the August 27th shooting in the Holland community. According to Sheriff Schrader – Marsh was still being treated in a Chattanooga area hospital when he passed away Thursday morning.  The sheriff added that Steven James Mauldin, the suspect in the shooting, will now be facing additional charges.

Mauldin was already being held on double-homicide charges in connection with the slaying of 35 year old Joe Edward Brown and his mother, 61 year old Linda Mae Everett, who were shot and killed in the home that they shared with Marsh on Highway 100. The shooting took place on the morning of Tuesday, August 27th.

Marsh was shot and seriously wounded and had been hospitalized since that time.

Mauldin fled the scene and that subsequent manhunt involved law enforcement agencies in both Georgia and Alabama. He stands accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend in Norcross, Georgia, and then driving to Moody, Alabama where he abandoned the woman at a gas station.  He is facing kidnapping charges in Norcross, according to law enforcement officials there.  He is also facing charges in Moody, Alabama and in Coweta County, Georgia.  He was captured on Wednesday shortly after 1:00pm in Coweta County.

Mauldin reportedly has a history of being arrested for violent crimes.

The motive for the slayings remains unclear.
