A helping hand is a wonderful thing – especially when it comes from somewhere you didn’t expect:
That’s Joe Johnson – Vice-President of the East Alabama Chapter of the Regulators Motorcycle Club, a group of concerned citizens doing their best to make a difference here in Cherokee County.
He, Sergeant at Arms Curt Tucker, and President Bronson Morrison all recently paid a visit to the WEIS Radio studios to discuss their organization and their role in the community:
The Regulators organized a cleanup operation at Cherokee Memory Gardens on July 20th of this year in an effort to return the property to what it should be. Memory Gardens has long been a perpetual care cemetery – however it had fallen into disrepair, and been abandoned, due to financial issues and liens placed upon the business by the IRS, leaving no staff for the upkeep of the grounds. Members of the Club saw a need, rallied support for that cause, and made a tremendous amount of headway on the day of the cleanup operation, and another is planned for the near future.
They have a couple of other events coming up – the first is slated for this Sunday:
The “Ride for Chad” is coming up this Sunday, September 22nd. Chad Stephens was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident on the Chesnut Bypass in Centre last October (2018). He was just 37 years old.
Proceeds from the ride will go to help children at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The ride kicks off at the Regulator Clubhouse, 300 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
“Chad is hard to sum up in a few words! He was a great person who had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. Chad loved people and people loved him. He would strike up a conversation with anybody…he was very charismatic and the core of our riding group – he held us all together, and that man loved to ride a motorcycle more than anyone I know; it was his passion.”
~Curt Tucker
The “Build-a-Bed” event is in conjunction with the “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” organization out of Gadsden, which also provides beds for children in need in Cherokee County.
The Regulators Motorcycle Club is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization
