Centre Man Charged with Stealing Rent-A-Center Van, DUI and More / UPDATED – Charges Added in Leesburg

A Centre man was arrested at a location on Broad Street in Rome on Saturday on charges of theft by receiving stolen property, and bringing stolen property into the state.  According to Floyd County Jail records,  James Brent Morgan, age 38, of an East Main Street address – was initially stopped by Rome Police for failing to maintain his lane.

He was charged with DUI, open container and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

It was then discovered that the Rent-A-Center van he was driving had been reported stolen in Gadsden.

And now, the back story – that morning, Morgan allegedly stole a pickup truck from a home located on Mackey Street in Leesburg then drove it to Gadsden where he abandoned it at an apartment complex and walked to the nearby Rent-A-Center, where he stole the van that he was later pulled over in.

According to Investigator Jamie Chatman, Morgan also has active warrants in Leesburg for Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
