Details are still emerging regarding the murder of two individuals on Highway 100 in the Holland community of Chattooga County on Tuesday of this week. 

Thirty-five-year-old Joe Edward Brown and his mother 61 year old Linda Mae Everett were shot dead at their home on Tuesday morning.

Forty-six-year-old Daryl Lee Marsh was shot and injured and was transported by Redmond EMS to a hospital in Rome.  On Thursday evening, Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader told media outlets that Marsh is still listed in “serious” condition, and the sheriff’s office has not been able to talk with him due to the seriousness of those injuries.  The sheriff said that they are constantly monitoring Marsh’s condition and “just as soon as he’s able to talk” they will have an investigator there to speak with him.

Marsh is the only surviving witness to the crime and the sheriff said that he doesn’t want to release much more information until they are able to speak with him.

The sheriff did state murder suspect Steven James Mauldin was an acquaintance of Brown and Marsh and that he had been staying at their residence for “a couple of days” before the murders took place.
