Robbery/Arson Suspect Transferred to Floyd County Jail from Etowah County

The suspect in the May 21st burglary and arson at the Rozy Food Mart near Cave Spring is now lodged in the Floyd County Jail.

22-year old Dustin Wade Smith of Piedmont has been held in the Etowah County Detention Center since his arrest in late June.

According to the arrest warrants, Smith entered the store on Gadsden Road by breaking the glass door and locking mechanisms with a crowbar.  He took the register drawer and a case of beer before using an accelerant to start fires at multiple locations in the store.

Smith stands charged with 2nd degree burglary, smash & grab burglary, 2nd degree arson, 2nd degree criminal damage to property, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and misdemeanor theft by taking.  Smith was charged with being a fugitive from justice, for having an outstanding arrest warrant in Jackson County, Alabama.
