Band Camp is underway at Cherokee County High School under the leadership of a brand new Band Director. Haley Stansky is in her second year as a music educator, and her first year with the Cherokee County High and Centre Middle School Band programs.

On Thursday, WEIS Radio News had the opportunity to sit down with Ms. Stansky for an exclusive interview as she told us a little bit about her background.

Stansky is a 2018 Magna Cum Laude Honors graduate of Jacksonville State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Instrumental Music Education. While at JSU, Ms. Stansky was a member of The Marching Southerners, various jazz groups, and many orchestras and operas. She was also the Principal clarinetist for the highest instrumental ensemble, JSU Chamber Winds. While in college, Ms. Stansky was involved with Sigma Alpha Iota, an international music fraternity focused on service through music, and served as their President and Treasurer. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Alabama Music Educators Association, National Education Association, Alabama Educators Association, and the International Clarinet Association. Her honorary organizations include Phi Delta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi.

Stanksy said she has been interested in the area for a long time and is excited to finally get the opportunity to work here.

This year’s show will be feature tunes from the Mowtown era; Stansky said that this is going to be a great fit for the community and for competitions.
