Man Implicated in $500,000 House Fire in Silver Creek Now Behind Bars

A man implicated in a fire on Craton Road in Silver Creek that occurred earlier this year is now in the Floyd County Jail.

68-year old Stanley Edward Stephens of Port Orange, Florida was transferred from the Volusia County Jail to Floyd County on Friday to face local charges of first-degree arson, conspiracy to commit a felony, insurance fraud, violation of the Georgia Residential Mortgage Fraud Act, second-degree criminal damage to property, and exploitation of the elderly.

According to the arrest warrant, Stephens used an ignitable liquid to cause the February 10 fire, which destroyed the $500,000 home.  A second man, Donald Eric Louallen, was also charged in the arson.  According to jail reports, Stephens also filed a fraudulent insurance claim for $2 million.  Stephens also allegedly took out a reserve mortgage using another person’s name and information.

Regions Bank had taken ownership of the home in April of 2018.
