Previously Reported

Authorities are searching for an inmate that escaped the Etowah County Detention Center early Sunday morning. Corrections officers noticed that an inmate on the kitchen staff at the Etowah County Detention Center was missing from his assigned work area.

A “BOLO” was issued for 48 year old Jimmy Ray Green who was in jail on charges of attempting to elude and being a violent felon in possession of a pistol. Green was last seen wearing a yellow shirt and blue jeans. Officers reviewed video surveillance and witnessed Green using a garbage can to climb over a fence behind the kitchen. Green was last seen on video running east on the railroad tracks behind the facility. The Etowah Co. Sheriff’s Office said that the fence Green jumped over is temporary and therefore does not have the usual Concertina wire due to jail renovations.

Green is known to have an address in Cherokee County.

If you have seen Jimmy Ray Green or know his whereabouts, you are asked to call 911 immediately.

Green is described as a white male, 5 feet and 8 inches tall, weighs approximately 160lbs, brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is encouraged to call 911, The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office at 256-546-2825 or the Anonymous Tip Line at 256-543-2893.
