ALEA Investigating Three Fatal Accidents Over The Weekend

Alabama State Troopers are investigating three separate fatal accidents occurring on Saturday, one in DeKalb County and two in Limestone County

61 years James Harold Hillis of Silver Creek, Ga., was killed when the 1999 Mack tractor trailer he was driving ran off the roadway and struck a ditch before overturning and catching fire.

Hillis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at 3:40 p.m. on Interstate 59 at the 235 mile marker, 15 miles north of Ft. Payne.

60 year old Jerry Lee Watkins or Ardmore, Al. was operating a 2008 Honda motorcycle when he left the roadway and struck a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at 2:40 p.m. on Salem Minor Hill Road three miles south of Lester in Limestone County.

A Madison man was killed in a traffic crash involving a train. 61 year old Arthur D. Lapietra was killed when the 2007 Saab he was driving was struck by a train at the railroad crossing on Laugh Miller Road one mile north of Decatur. Lapietra was pronounced dead at the scene.

ALEA Troopers continue to investigate the crash, and nothing further is available.
