BREAKING NEWS| Suspect Wanted For Attempted Murder In Custody

Cherokee County Chief Deputy Josh Summerford says that 54 year old Michael Gilreath of Rome who was wanted for Attempted Murder was taken into custody between 6: 30 pm. and 7:30 p.m. on County Road 16 near the S-curves at the bridge on Thursday evening.

Officers with the Alabama Department of Conservation and deputies with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office assisted Cherokee County authorities with the manhunt by providing K-9 Units.

Gilreath is charged  in connection with a shooting incident that occurred Monday night in the Kirk’s Grove community.  

Deputies responded to a residence on County Road 22 just prior to 10:00 p.m. and upon their arrival they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The unnamed victim was taken by Redmond EMS to an area hospital where he immediately underwent surgery.  He is currently listed in stable condition.

Investigators took two suspects into custody Tuesday afternoon at a home on Highway 9 in the Ellisville community.  Anthony Matthew Gilreath of Centre 29, and Stephen Eric Parker, 47 from Lindale, Georgia were transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center where they were each booked in on a charge of Attempt to Commit Murder.

Summerford said that additional information will be released later as this is an ongoing investigation.
