ALDOT Places Barricades In Leesburg To “Discourage Vendors From Encroaching On The State Right Of Way”

WEIS Radio News has had several questions regarding why the barricades have been placed in two separate locations in Leesburg. On Tuesday, we sent an email to Seth Burkett, Public Information Officer for the North Region of the Alabama Department of Transportation.

We received the following response:

“Following legal and safety concerns raised by the public, the department placed temporary barriers to demarcate the state right of way and discourage vendors from encroaching on state right of way at the intersection of U.S. 411 and Alabama 68.”

To break it down, the barricades have been placed at those locations to prevent any vendors from setting up and selling on the state right of way.

We will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
