Fill a Bag Food Drive This Saturday May 11th

The National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is taking place this Saturday, May 11th. This is a program that collects food for the needy as a part of their community service efforts.

Here is how you can help: Bag up healthy, nonperishable food items and place them by your mailbox for your letter carrier to pick up and deliver to local food banks and pantries. All the donations received will stay within your community.

People are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items such as: pasta, cereal, oatmeal, canola oil, peanut butter and canned goods including beans, fruit, vegetables, soup, tuna in water, meat and sauce. Please try to avoid food in glass containers.

This year, the event goal will be to raise more money than in previous years. The premier partner this year is the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. The UFCW is a proud union family that feeds, serves, and provides for America’s hard-working families.

The event started in 1991 and was revamped in 1993 when it set a single day record in the United States for most food collected (11 million pounds) by more than 220 union branches. Since then, the food drive has been going strong and has vastly expanded throughout the U.S.
