Cherokee County Schools Hold 2019 Special Olympics/Fun Day

Cherokee County Schools held their annual Fun Day/Special Olympics at Cherokee County High School on Friday, April 26. This year’s theme was “Fun Day Rocks.” Special Education Coordinator, Tara Blanchard, welcomed everyone to the event and lead the group in a roll call. The National Anthem was sung by Hannah Cosby and Grayson Huffman.

A special presentation was made by Deanne McFry and Tina Rowland. A new tradition of honoring/remembering a person who embodies the truly selfless, giving, loving spirit of Special Olympics They dedicated this year’s event was held in the memory of Hal Sewell. A great big thank you to our sponsors, who without their help, this event would not be possible: Cherokee County Commission, One Stop Hardware & C-Store, Town of Gaylesville, Perfectly Imperfect, Steak Barn Meat Market, TMC Graphics & Signs, WEIS Radio, Day’s Sporting Goods, Go Play Therapy, Moutain Parkway Grill, Southern Roots Salon, Lakeside Primary Care Clinic, Sherri’s Bakery, Sassy Scissors Salon, Kristi Brown, Bain & Ava Hammett, James & Diane Lyles and Cherokee County Civitan Club. The students & adults then participated in the 50 Yard Roll, 50 Yard Walk, 50 yard Dash, Softball Throw, Kickball Distance and T-Ball Swing.

Everyone was able to visit the booths for fun games and activities.

There was a Musical Notes game run by the Lakeside Primary Care Clinic staff, a Bean Bag Toss, Party Like a Rock Star (Karaoke), Strike a Pose (Selfie-Booth), Guitar Art, Giant Bowling, and Ring Toss. All the booths were run by members of the following Beta Clubs: Cedar Bluff Beta Club, Cherokee County High Beta Club, Sand Rock Beta Club, and Spring Garden Beta Club. These Beta Club students help set up and take down the events, ran booths, helped serve lunch, were cheerleaders for our racers and support for our teachers.

Mrs. Tina Roland, Program Specialist for Cherokee County Schools told WEIS Radio that they are very grateful for their help and our students and adults love getting all the support and encouragement from these students. Everyone was provided a lunch organized by Cherokee County Civitan Club. After lunch, everyone enjoyed inflatables in the gym.

The students loved dancing and playing until the end of the day. Each student and adult also received a Fun Day Rocks t-shirt and a goody bag to complete the day.
