Due to weather related issues, the first round schedule of the 2019 AHSAA State Baseball Playoffs was disrupted, however all teams were able to get their games taken care of following some delays and change of locations. WEIS Radio local coverage teams had a nice run through round one, coming out with an overall record of 5-2.

In Class 1A, defending state runner-up Spring Garden advanced on Saturday, with the 7th-ranked Panthers sweeping #9 Lynn in their 3-game-series by scores of 8-0 and 14-1. Gaylesville, meanwhile, saw their season come to a tough end, as the Trojans fell to Waterloo in two games (3-22, 5-7).

Moving to Class 2A, Cedar Bluff moved on to the next round by defeating Sheffield convincingly in two games by scores of 15-1 and 16-3. Collinsville had to wait out until Monday to get to their games, and unfortunately the wait was for a series loss to #10 Red Bay (3-10, 8-23).

Piedmont was also on the wait block for Monday games to finally get to their series, but luckily for the 5th-ranked Bulldogs, they were able to sweep Lamar County with a game one score of 16-6 and game two score of 11-1.

Class 4A is where we see our local teams wrapped up with two series wins. Cherokee County got by on Saturday with 2 wins over Lincoln (11-4, 8-6), and the top ranked in 4A Hokes Bluff Eagles swept Cleburne County in their Monday nightcap with wins of 12-4 and 6-0.

The challenge of the playoffs gets no easier going into round two for our local teams as we look ahead to Friday. #7 Spring Garden will travel their way to Falkville in Class 1A, while Cedar Bluff will stay right at home in their 2A matchup with Southeastern and Piedmont will welcome Lauderdale County to the Bulldogs home baseball diamond. Our local 4A teams will be staying put at home as well, with Cherokee County entertaining #10 Brooks, and #1 Hokes Bluff will take on a visiting Wilson team.
