Former Auburn Head Football Coach Tommy Tubberville has officially announced his bid for the Republican U.S. Senate seat in Alabama.
Tubberville, who had considered running for Governor in 2018, will be vying for the seat currently held by Democrat Doug Jones.
Jones won the seat vacated by Jeff Sessions in 2017 when Sessions became US Attorney General. Jones beat Roy Moore by half a percentage point in a contentious special election campaign.
The Republican primary for the seat is on March 3, 2020. Rep. Bradley Byrne has also announced he would seek the Republican nomination for Senate.
After more than a year of listening to Alabama’s citizens, I have heard your concerns and hopes for a better tomorrow. I am humbled to announce the next step — I will be a @GOP candidate for US Senate. I invite you to join my team. https://t.co/jlW8VdXpoq #TeamTommy #ALSen #MAGA
