“Reelin’ in the Big Ones” During the 2019 Crappie Rodeo – Yet Another $1,000 Tagged Crappie Caught

Fishing is great on Weiss Lake – the fourth $1,000 tagged crappie was recently reeled in by an angler taking part in the 2019 Weiss Lake Improvement Association Crappie Rodeo.

Amos Wallbrown started his day off right, by catching that “grand” crappie in Little River at 7:42 Sunday morning (March 24th).  Wallbrown hails from Greenfield, Indiana.

A North Carolina man reeled in not one, but two, $1,000 tagged crappie last week.

On Wednesday (March 20th), J.D. Norton of Granite Falls, said he was shooting docks in the Little River area when he caught a tagged crappie – and he immediately took his fish to Bill Hamlin (owner of Little River Marina) to collect what he thought was a $50 prize, but found out it was a $1,000 fish!  On Thursday morning Norton went fishing again on the same dock – and caught another tagged crappie to find out it was another $1,000 tagged fish.

The first to pull a tagged $1,000 fish from Weiss Lake during this year’s tournament was a local fisherman.  Virgil Beatenbo of Cedar Bluff told Tim Pentecost, the Weiss Lake Improvement Association Secretary – he was shooting docks in the Yellow Creek area when he caught the big money fish.  He took it straight to Bay Springs Motel & Marina to cash in it in.

Make sure you purchase your Crappie Rodeo badge before going fishing – YOU could be the next big winner!
