A call went out at 5:35 Monday morning reporting a fire at Parkdale Mills off of Highway 68 in Leesburg across from KTH.
Emergency personnel – including units of the Leesburg, Sand Rock, Tucker’s Chapel and the Centre fire departments – were instructed to enter from the front of the building. Parkdale, which is still commonly referred to as “the old Leesburg yarn mill”, was quickly attended to by a large force of firefighters.
According to Leesburg Fire Chief Nati Rodriguez a spark from one of the machines ignited a small fire, which spread into some nearby duct work.
The blaze was brought under control in less than an hour – and the immediate area around the machinery suffered only minimal water damage during the incident.
Fortunately, no one was hurt and firefighters wound up their work at the scene by 9:30am.
