Piedmont And Spring Garden Fire Departments Join Forces For “Worst Case Scenarios” Training

The Piedmont Fire Department and Spring Garden Volunteer Fire Department recently joined forces for firefighter training. Firefighters participated in several drills which are known as “Worst Case scenarios”.

Among the drills including the “bail out” which teaches a firemen to use rope to escape a through a 2nd or 3rd floor window when conditions rapidly deteriorate and they become trapped from extremely high heat or structural collapse.

The “Denver Drill” which teaches techniques to quickly remove a downed firefighter such as one that has suffered a heart attack. The technique teaches the prompt removal through a 2nd or 3rd floor window.

Firefighters were also taught techniques for fast “disrobing” a firefighter of his personal protective equipment and breathing apparatus during a cardiac arrest.

All of these techniques are some that firefighters hope they never have to put to use but can be valuable if a firefighter goes down.
