The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency Disaster Relief Shelter remains open and available for those displaced by the recent flood. Hot meals, showers, restrooms facilities and cots are available 24 hours a day. Meal times will be 7:00 a.m., noon and 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and 8:00 a.m., noon and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
In Cedar Bluff, a portable shower unit has been brought in for affected residents in that area. That facility is located at Cedar Bluff Town Hall. Also, the restroom facilities located in the town park will be available 24 hours a day for use and the community center will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily.
The shelter is seeking assistance from business, civic clubs/groups, churches or other organizations to bring in meals at the shelter. Volunteers are also needed, especially during the late night and early morning hours.
The shelter is also in need of donations of rubber gloves, flip flops to use as shower shoes, water, non scented hand sanitizer, unscented/ low scented laundry pods, unscented dryer sheets, individual chips and other snacks, pop tarts, towels, wash clothes, paper towels, toilet paper, lysol and cleaning spray.
A pet shelter has also been established at the softball complex located behind Gadsden State Cherokee. This shelter is for domesticated pets of those displaced by the flood.
