It’s not a sure thing, but another round of strong to severe storms is beginning to look more likely for Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. There is a bit of good news: The Storm Prediction Center has removed the marginal risk of severe weather for today and Friday for south Alabama. Rain and storms are still possible there but widespread severe storms are not expected.
Now forecasters have turned their attention to Sunday, when the next round of severe storms is looking increasingly likely. All forms of severe weather could be on the table, including tornadoes, damaging winds and hail and rain.
Some parts of the state could get more heavy rain, which would complicate ongoing river flooding. The Storm Prediction Center has placed a large part of Alabama under a severe weather risk for Sunday.
As of Thursday it’s looking to be more of a daytime event. The National Weather Service is thinking the storms will be possible starting during the late morning and could last into the evening.
After the rain will come a blast of colder air. And the threat for a little winter precipitation as well, mainly for north Alabama. The National Weather Service in Huntsville said rain could mix with snow late Sunday into Monday across north Alabama, but no accumulations are expected.
