First Responders Conduct Rescue/Recovery Operation At Money’s Bend Campground In Cedar Bluff

At least two residents of the Money’s Bend Campground in Cedar Bluff had to be rescued from rising waters on Friday afternoon. Marine units with the Cherokee County Rescue Squad in addition to Cedar Bluff Firefighters and Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency Officials responded to the scene. Floyd EMS units were also placed on standby as a precautionary measure.

Much of the campground is completely under water, as is the case with just about every campground across Weiss Lake. Cherokee Electric crews cut power to the campground.

As of 2:52 p.m. Friday (February 22nd) the Weiss Lake level was at 567’ 7” – which is above Flood Stage.

Alabama Power says that they are projecting a peak right around 570 ft, subject to change with weather conditions. Residents can stay alert to changes conditions by visiting www.apcshorelines.com

Remember, at these levels flooding of lakeside property occurs, affecting docks, boathouses and so on.

Also, we’ve had a number of reports of items appearing in the lake such as lawn furniture, a variety of children’s toys, bicycles – you name it.  Please take time to secure all items of this sort so you do not lose your property and it doesn’t go into the lake where it does become a navigational hazard.

These items have to be removed so as not to present a danger to others – and that – in turn, takes valuable time away from marine patrol officers’ other duties and activities.
