The National Weather Service says an additional two to four inches of rain will be possible across parts of north Alabama through this weekend, and flood watches continue as well.
The heaviest rain is expected from Wednesday through Friday and flooding has already been reported in some areas. Forecasters stated “confidence remains high for a prolonged river flood threat” on area rivers. Much of the area got a break from rain overnight, which the weather service said has helped to alleviate some of the minor flooding, but there could be several rounds of rain through Saturday.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has placed part of the state under a marginal risk of severe storms today (Wednesday), which means isolated severe storms will be possible. The National Weather Service in Birmingham has gone a bit further and placed nearly all of central Alabama under a marginal risk.
The weather service is also looking ahead to another chance for severe weather Saturday – one that could affect more of the state.
