Sand Rock Girls Earn Dominant Win; Slot In 2A Girls Northeast Regional Championship

Sand Rock’s dominant 26 game winning streak expanded to 27 and the extension of the streak came with it’s own equally dominant win in the Northeast Regional Semifinal round at JSU’s Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Sand Rock’s #1 ranked Lady Wildcats (31-2) established themselves in Jacksonville with a 64-16 win over the Ranburne Lady Bulldogs (21-7), a win that included holding the Lady Bulldogs scoreless for the first 14 minutes of the game while also establishing a 30-0 run during that defensive tight hold. 3 Sand Rock players led the way statistically: Caley Garrett finished with 14 points off of 4-8 shooting (3-6 from 3, 3-4 on free throws) and 4 rebounds (1 offensive, 3 defensive); Lanie Henderson added 14 points as well off of 5-7 shooting (3-5 from long range, 1-4 from the line), 4 rebounds (2 offensive, 2 defensive), and 1 steal; and finally Kirby DeBoard went on to end the game with 7 points off of 3-9 shooting (0-2 from 3, 1-1 FT), 3 rebounds (1 offensive, 2 defensive), 4 assists, and 5 steals. With the win, Sand Rock’s girls head to the 2A Girls Regional Championship game to take on the winner of #2 Sacred Heart vs #6 Fyffe, with that game being on Tuesday, February 19th at 6:30 PM.

Congrats to this impressive Sand Rock team, and along with both of Spring Garden’s squads in championship games and Cherokee County’s girls in a semifinal, it is gonna be a stacked Tuesday for our local teams here from JSU. Stay with us here at WEIS as we follow our 4 remaining coverage teams on Tuesday, and throughout the rest of the AHSAA basketball playoffs.
