Mohawk Plant in Lyerly Announces Shift Changes; Cutbacks

Following weeks of rumors it’s now official – the Mohawk Plant in Lyerly, one of the biggest employers in Chattooga County – has announced that they are cutting back.

At this time, it isn’t clear just how many jobs will be impacted.

The Summerville News reported Thursday afternoon that they had received a letter from Robert Webb, Director of Public Affairs for Mowhawk Industries, saying the plant in Lyerly will be transitioning from twelve hour shifts to eight hour shifts.  That change will “initially reduce the number of positions needed to operate the Lyerly Plant,” according to the letter released by the newspaper.

The letter does not indicate how many jobs will be cut, nor does it address changes from the seven-day-a-week schedule to a five-day-a-week schedule.  Mohawk is saying that they will relocate workers affected by the change.

Meanwhile, Roper Corporation released a statement late Thursday afternoon inviting those affected by the job cuts in Lyerly to apply for positions at their plant in LaFayette.
