Update On Winter Weather Event For Tuesday

FROM THE CHEROKEE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

According to the latest model data and forecasts issued by the National Weather Service in Birmingham, Winter Weather is expected to impact Cherokee County beginning Tuesday morning around 6:00 A.M. and will linger throughout the day Tuesday and Wednesday. It is possible for the wintry precipitation to “stick” around until Thursday due to the temperatures not rising above freezing until then.

What can be expected?

A strong Arctic system will push its way into the area on Tuesday morning driving temperatures down well below freezing. With rain beginning to fall between 4:00 A.M. – 6:00 A.M. Tuesday morning and transitioning to Sleet/Snow around 6:00 A.M., we are expected to see accumulations between 1.5 – 2.5 inches of snow. Some areas could see closer to 3 inches.

Expect HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS!!! Anything that melts is expected to refreeze creating the strong possibility of ICE. We will be monitoring the situation throughout the day on Tuesday and post updates and road conditions as we receive them.

Currently no decisions have been made at this time regarding any school delays or closures. We are in communications with the Superintendent of Education and the Transportation Superintendent. We will post any decisions once they are made.
