Tensions continue to mount among federal workers who are still waiting for a paycheck.
On Thursday Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer were trying to negotiate a three-week stop-gap funding bill to re-open the government, but at this point, it looks as though paychecks will continue to be missed for federal employees across a host of different agencies that includes the Department of Interior and Department of Treasury.
Members of the Coast Guard will miss their second paycheck on Wednesday (January 30th)
All-in-all some 800,000 workers are affected.
WEIS Radio spoke with Senator Andrew Jones via telephone Thursday regarding this issue:
According to a report from ABC News – a 2018 study from Northwestern Mutual found that 21% of adults have nothing saved for retirement, and another 10% have less than $5,000 saved. Meanwhile car payments, childcare and mortgage payments all have to be paid even though no paycheck is coming in – and that can drain bank accounts quickly.
We’ll have more from Senator Jones in the coming days.
