Investigators Leaning Toward Verdict of Arson in December House Fire

Investigators with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office believe the December 19th fire that destroyed a residence on the Holland/Chattoogaville Road was arson.

The fire was at a vacant residence that belongs to Robert Armstrong.

When the deputy arrived on the scene at 2149 Holland/Chattoogaville Road, the structure was already fully engulfed in flames.   Armstrong told the deputy he believed he knew who had burned his house down.

The state fire marshal is still looking into the cause of the blaze; however investigators with the sheriff’s office believe that it was indeed a case of arson – because no power service was hooked up to the residence.

At the time of the fire, Armstrong had told the sheriff’s office that he had been experiencing problems with people squatting inside the vacant house.
