Cherokee County deputies made a number of arrests related to impaired driving during the New Year holiday weekend.
According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver, in an effort to keep the highways and roadways safe, extra patrols were put in place to locate impaired or intoxicated drivers.
The following individuals were arrested and transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center:
Ghreta Washington, age 50 of Centre – DUI; Jesse Giddens, age 21 of Gaylesville – Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and the Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; Preston Hamby, age 20 of Collinsville – Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; Christian Whitlock, 20 of Leesburg – Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; Jason Morgan, age 39 of Gadsden – Public Intoxication; Rebecca Norwood, age 51 of Piedmont – Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, the Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; Kara Fernandez, age 41 of Centre – Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree, DUI, Failure to Maintain Lane, Speeding and Open Container Violation; Jacob Young, age 20 from Piedmont – the Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Kyler Rickard, age 20 – the Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree.
The extra patrols were made possible through a grant from the ADECA Highway and Traffic Safety Office.
