A former Georgia Department of Corrections officer who entered a guilty plea to smuggling methamphetamine and marijuana into Hays State Prison in Trion – was sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison this past Thursday.  34 year old Tiffany Cook of Summerville had pled guilty back in October to being paid by an inmate to smuggle drugs into the facility, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Atlanta.

Cook had been working at Hays since April 2017 and had been working for the Department of Corrections since 2010.  In July of 2018, the GDC received a tip from an inmate that Cook was being paid to smuggle drugs into the prison.  When corrections officers asked her to accompany them to a conference room prior to her July 9th shift, she stated she felt ill and wanted to leave the grounds,  She was detained and searched – and officials found more than 118 grams of meth and 150 grams of marijuana on her, leading to her arrest.  

On October 11th, she pleaded guilty to Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute.  Once her prison time is finished, she will serve five years of supervised release.
