A teacher at Hays State Prison is accused of bringing tobacco into the facility – and has been arrested, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Andrew Starr Lee, age 42 of Rome, was arrested on December 11th after authorities at the prison say that he brought an unspecified quantity of tobacco into the facility. 

Prison officials say that Lee is accused of receiving monetary compensation in exchange for bringing the tobacco into the prison.  The Georgia Department of Corrections has issued the the following statement regarding such incidents – “The Georgia Department of Corrections does not tolerate contraband in any of our facilities. If an employee, volunteer, visitor, or offender in our facilities is found to have or be transporting contraband, they are arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Lee was booked in at the Chattooga County Jail on charges of giving an inmate prohibited items and trading with inmates without the consent of the warden.
