One Hurt in Accident Involving Car and Cherokee County Rescue Squad Unit Saturday Night / UPDATED

A teen driver was hurt in a two-vehicle crash involving a car and a Cherokee County Rescue Squad vehicle Saturday night in Centre. 

The accident took place at approximately 10:10 – at the intersection of the East Bypass and Armory Road – as the emergency unit was responding to a call. 

According to the Centre PD accident report, the driver of the Rescue Squad unit, Joshua Thompson, age 27 from Centre, was unhurt; however the driver of the 2011 Ford Mustang involved, Jonathan Rainey, age 17 of Centre, was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center by Floyd Cherokee EMS for the treatment of his injuries.

The Centre Police and Fire Departments, Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Floyd Cherokee EMS responded to the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Centre Police Department.
